Grand Erie schools have responded to the tragic earthquake in Haiti by donating to help the victims. These Oakland-Scotland Public School students initiated a Hearts for Haiti campaign at their school. Students and staff collected more than 1,200 bars of soap, boxes of toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs and bandage boxes to send to support survivors in Haiti. Schools have raised more than $34,000 so far, with more donations coming in from Grand Erie students and staff. Grand Erie students and staff have responded to the needs of the Haitian earthquake. Oakland-Scotland collected goods to ship to the ravaged country. Many other schools have raised significant amounts for the relief efforts, including: North Park, $4,000; Simcoe Composite more than $3,200; Pauline Johnson, close to $2,100; Cobblestone Elementary, $1,463.11; McKinnon Park, $1,100; Glen Morris, $356; Elgin Ave., $600; Paris Central, $1,180; Seneca Central, $402.64; Burford District Elementary, $500; Woodman, $400; Echo Place, $904.74; Thompson Creek, $775; Centennial-Grand Woodlands, $460; Waterford District High School, $400; Jarvis, $395; Central, $155.57; Doverwood, $1,436.88; Princess Elizabeth $545; Walpole North, $483.91; Dunnville Central, $500; Delhi Public, $1,400; River Heights, $1,700, Lynndale Heights, $1,500; Port Rowan, $1,696.40; Paris District High School, $400; Ecole Dufferin, $400; Courtland Public, $250; Lansdowne, $308.69; Valley Heights, $650; Dunnville Secondary School, $325; North Ward, $2246.22; Russell Reid/Coronation, $1,030.20; Grand View, $155.52; J.L. Mitchener, $695.92; Agnes Hodge, $1,009; St. George-German, $303; Waterford Public School, $461.58; Fairview Avenue School in Dunnville, $324; Russell Reid, $363.97; West Lynn, $455; Grandview in Dunnville, $151.60; Teeterville Public School $223.61; and other sites, $1,249. Many Grand Erie schools from across the system have demonstrated compassion for the people of Haiti and are continuing their efforts, have just begun or have planned activities for the coming weeks.
